Trade Shows, Tom Peters & Martinis

In the Blog alternate universe, we are wrapping up a Requirements/Content Inventory/High Level Components Document Package for this Content Management System Package. In the Real World, we are a few weeks ahead. We have convened a “blue ribbon” RFP Evaluation Committee, and I’m trying to develop a Vendor short list to work from.

A great place to do that is a trade show, and I’ve gotten a bit of luck. The AIIM 2004 Enterprise Content and Document Management Show is in the Javits Center in NYC next week.

I’ll be heading up there to see some demos, talk to some vendors, and try to get a general sense for the Budget of this project. I need to do some expectation setting with my Clients Senior Management. In an informal setting, I can ask some questions, and formulate some ideas about pricing and budget.

Plus, its an opportunity to hear Tom Peters, the Tuesday Morning Keynote speaker. I haven’t read his latest, but I read and re-read “The Brand You 50” several times a year. I never fail to get inspiration and ideas about how to “transform yourself from an employee to a brand that shouts distinction, commitment, and passion!” Like author a Blog on something I’m passionate about, IT Project Management.

So should be a fun outing. The Reverend and I were in NYC last weekend, and had a blast. We ended up in the current hottest bar in the city, The Bar atop the new Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Columbus Circle. It features a fabulous view of Central Park from 33 floors up. Try the Vanilla Martini dusted with cocoanut.

But none of that this trip – I’ve got work to do.
