Punchlist for a “483” – The Punchlist
Pretty deep into this Incident Reporting System project, I find that the reporting requirements are a large and critical part of the system, yet undefined. I check back to the original estimate document for the size and scope of the reporting effort.
Good news – I had quantified the report count in the estimate. Bad news – it was a big number (20), and I only had 10 Mandays of budget for all twenty.


If You Measure It, They Will Come (back)
In my Project Manager's toolbox, I always carry the indispensable measuring tape. It's like the old saw (pun intended): "if you can't measure it, you can't manage it". And, there are lot's of things to measure.


Content and XML
At the AIIM show at the Javits Center in NYC, I saw lots of software vendors with many offerings. Most of these vendors had the word “Enterprise” in the description of the software product.


Structure-Function
We left the Analyst in front of the white board, drawing circles and arrows. She was engaged in the primal act – Creation. Out of the formless Requirements Void was emerging the Light of a Solution, an Architecture.

As you may recall, I’m the PM for a project to install a content management system for a medical publisher. We have worked hard at understanding and documenting the benefits of the system, but that’s not what people really want to talk about.
